Amusing facts of the Week.

George Washington seldom slept more than three or four consecutive hours in any day during the Revolutionary war !!

Here is another one :

To help determine on what floor it should have it's offices in one of the two 110-story skyscrapers of the World Trade Center, (unfortunately none of these towers exists today), in lower Manhattan, a Japanese company hired a soothsayer to throw dice !!

Scientific effect of Meditation

Meditation, one of the most common mind-body interventions, is a conscious mental process that induces a set of integrated physiological changes termed the relaxation response. Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) has been used to identify and characterize the brain regions that are active during meditation. This research suggests that various parts of the brain known to be involved in attention and in the control of the autonomic nervous system are activated, providing a neurochemical and anatomical basis for the effects of meditation on various physiological activities.

(Source : Lazar SW, Bush G, Gollub RL, et al. Functional brain mapping of the relaxation response and meditation. Neuroreport. 2000;11(7):1581-1585)

Recent studies involving imaging are advancing the understanding of mind-body mechanisms. For example, meditation has been shown in one study to produce significant increases in left-sided anterior brain activity, which is associated with positive emotional states. Moreover, in this same study, meditation was associated with increases in antibody titers to influenza vaccine, suggesting potential linkages among meditation, positive emotional states, localized brain responses, and improved immune function.

Learn Transcendental Meditation - for free !!

Or at least know about what it is exactly

While surfing internet, one day I found this and it's really worth mentioning here :

The TM Techniques - A Complete, basic summary of the TM, advanced TM, TM-Sidhi and Primordial Sound techniques, collected together in one place. Includes all the TM mantras. Provided for historical and research purposes only (in other words, don't blame them for what happens if you attempt to meditate with this data, and don't even think about sending them international snail-mail with questions about meditation.)
